Senior Spotlight: How Samarie Turned Post-Grad Career Anxiety into Career Readiness
For many seniors, the biggest challenge isn't mastering course material—it's figuring out how to translate those academic skills into a real-world career. For Samarie, a recent Blue Chip graduate, navigating technical interviews, refining resumes, and stepping into professional life felt daunting.
That shift from classroom theory to professional practice became seamless during her final year in the Blue Chip Leadership Experience.
"In my major classes, there is a focus on content, with no time for talk about how to actually get a job where I can use those skills... Blue Chip made it so that this was not something big and scary and unknown, but something to chip at piece by piece."
Building Confidence Piece by Piece
Through the Year 4 curriculum, Samarie focused on actionable career preparation and leadership development. Rather than facing the job search alone, she was paired with a mentor already working in her target field. These structured check-ins allowed her to polish her technical interview approach, refine her resume, and gain firsthand clarity on industry expectations.
Beyond one-on-one mentorship, key experiences shaped her senior year:
- Career Exploration & Presentations: Interviewing field professionals to prepare a forward-looking TED Talk on her future career trajectory.
- Mentorship Strategy: Learning not just how to find a mentor, but how to ask the right questions to drive personal growth.
- Community & Reflection: Connecting with peers at the Year 4 Retreat to discuss shared goals, worries, and strategies for life after college.
The Result: A Clear Path Forward
By breaking down daunting career milestones into manageable steps, Samarie built both the practical tools and the confidence needed for a smooth transition.
"Because of Year 4, I can say I have a job set up after graduation with no anxiety about how I am going to adapt; without this class I do not think I would be able to say the same."
